Adobe Flash and Adobe Director
Adobe’s set of tools for authoring interactive content, such as animations, presentations and games contain graphics and animation features and a powerful scripting language, enabling development of truly large-scale and robust applications.
We frequently use Adobe Director and Flash in our localisation projects. In addition, we use Flash in developing web presentations and multimedia products. Our largest Flash project to date is the development of an educational series of six maths CD-ROMs for Riverdeep Inc. of Ireland.
Adobe Flex
Adobe Flex is an environment for the development of Rich Internet Applications (RIA), which, though web-based, offer user experiences similar to desktop applications. If used in conjunction with the cross-platform Adobe Integrated Runtime (AIR), they can run as desktop apps as well. However, the use of Flex is not limited to building web front-ends. We have successfully used it for developing mini-games for Knowledge Adventure's JumpStart educational software series.
Unity 3D
Unity 3D is a modern development environment and a 3D game engine made by Denmark's Unity Technologies. Its main advantages are:
- cross platform - products can be easily published for MacOS, Windows, iPhone and Nintendo Wii platforms, and browser-based applications created for MacOS and Windows.
- high rendering speed
- extensive scripting - supports JavaScript, C# and Boo (Python) languages
We have used Unity3D in several projects, the most interesting of which was the development of educational activities for Knowledge Adventure (USA), an online virtual world for kids. The examples of the activities are Bug Catcher, Critters, Crates, Pet Toy and Sea Chest.
